Excerpt from Alicia by Dahlia Donovan:

“Such a naughty, teasing kitten.” Josh resisted the temptation to allow his hands to drift from her hips to grip her arse firmly.  He sensed Alicia wasn’t quite ready for anything other than a little lark to lift the oppressive sadness which lingered under the surface. “Going to play tour guide for me since the others have swanned off to entertain the whinging bint?”
“Sure.” Alicia eased into a pair of heels no one should’ve been able to walk in and smirked over at him. “Done looking at my arse?”
“Not a bloody chance.” Josh trailed behind her, making sure the balcony doors were locked and the cameras working before securing the front door to the suite. “You can never get enough of a beautiful piece of art.”
“Art?” Alicia’s laugh was like a sweet melody which resonated deeply in his soul and his groin.  Her gaze flitted down his front to the bulge in his trousers. “Honestly? How do you men walk around with it swinging out of control?”
“Who says it’s out of control?” Josh guided her down the stairs toward the lobby.

Tiny Little Thing by Beatriz Williams

Published June 23, 2015 by G.P. Putnam’s Son

In the summer of 1966, Christina Hardcastle—“Tiny” to her illustrious family—stands on the brink of a breathtaking future. Of the three Schuyler sisters, she’s the one raised to marry a man destined for leadership, and with her elegance and impeccable style, she presents a perfect camera-ready image in the dawning age of television politics. Together she and her husband, Frank, make the ultimate power couple: intelligent, rich, and impossibly attractive. It seems nothing can stop Frank from rising to national office, and he’s got his sights set on a senate seat in November.

But as the season gets underway at the family estate on Cape Cod, three unwelcome visitors appear in Tiny’s perfect life: her volatile sister Pepper, an envelope containing incriminating photograph, and the intimidating figure of Frank’s cousin Vietnam-war hero Caspian, who knows more about Tiny’s rich inner life than anyone else. As she struggles to maintain the glossy façade on which the Hardcastle family’s ambitions are built, Tiny begins to suspect that Frank is hiding a reckless entanglement of his own…one that may unravel both her own ordered life and her husband’s promising career.

My Thoughts…

This is a peek into the lives of the rich and political.     I really believe that Frank’s dad, more than Frank the son, wants Frank to be a successful politician.   To do that Frank’s secret must be kept hidden.   Sometimes the easiest way to hide something is in plain sight.   That is why Frank and Tiny get married.    She is the perfect ruse to what Frank truly is.     It works… to a point.     I had no clue what Frank’s secret was.   I thought I knew, I had guesses, but I was wrong until the end and it was spelled out for me.

I enjoyed watching Tiny come into her own.     Instead of being the timid mousy lady of the house she became someone to be dealt with.    The family could not just pacify her and pat her on the head expecting her to behave and do what is expected of her.   Cap, Frank’s cousin, is a huge part of her becoming strong.    He believes in her, sees in her what he wishes she could see for herself.     Their relationship was one that I was cheering for.   They needed each other more than anything else.
The historical items in this book fit perfectly into the story.    Beatriz Williams wove them into the story perfectly.     Yet, this did not feel too historical, where I was reading a history book.     The characters were realistic, with true feelings, and real reactions to what was going on around them.    I could relate to the characters, some of which I loved, some I wanted to smack.

Tiny Little Things is a book for many people.   It is historical fictions, women’s fiction, and an all around great read.   I recommend checking it out.

A Week at the Lake by Wendy Wax

Published June 23, 2015 by Berkley

Twenty years ago, Emma Michaels, Mackenzie Hayes, and Serena Stockton bonded over their New York City dreams. Then, each summer, they solidified their friendship by spending one week at the lake together, solving their problems over bottles of wine and gallons of ice cream. They kept the tradition for years, until jealousy, lies, and life’s disappointments made them drift apart.

It’s been five years since Emma has seen her friends, an absence designed to keep them from discovering a long-ago betrayal. Now she’s in desperate need of their support. The time has come to reveal her secrets—and hopefully rekindle their connection.

But when a terrible accident keeps Emma from saying her piece, Serena and Mackenzie begin to learn about the past on their own. Now, to heal their friendship and their broken lives, the three women will have to return to the lake that once united them, and discover which relationships are worth holding on to . . .

My Thoughts…

I picked this up hoping it would be a fun, light summer read.   The perfect book to take to the pool or the beach is what I was hoping for.    I would say it fit what I was looking for perfectly.

It is the story of three friends, Emma, Serena, and Mackenzie, who have known each other for years.   They lost their friendship for a few years and are now getting back together.   I felt like the story started slow.   Emma is in the hospital and the friends are rally around to get her healthy again.   The hospital part of the storyline seemed slow and long to me.    I felt like the story could have moved along a little quicker.   The good part of this part of the story was that I got to know the personalities of Serena and Mackenzie.   I could see how much they cared for each other and Zoe, Emma’s daughter.

The second part of the story, when the ladies are at the lake rekindling their friendships and helping Emma get her strength back, was the best.    The love, the understanding, the care was all so evident in their interactions.     I also loved that in this part you really got to know the other characters.  You got a good look at why Serena dated only married men.   Mackenzie was happily married to Adam, yet they had been apart and hardly communicating for over a month, was this a sign of things to come?     Then there is Zoe and her story, which I can’t tell about or it will give away too much of the surprise storyline.

I wanted these ladies and Zoe to salvage their friendships, to become as close as they once were, and to be friends in the future.    I was invested in all of their lives.     I enjoyed A Week at the Lake and certainly recommend it as a great beach/pool/summer read.

Excerpt:

I slipped into class late, and Morgan narrowed her eyes at me. I signaled for her to keep quiet as I took a seat behind her. I tried to concentrate on the class, but my mind kept wandering to Trent and how he was doing at work. My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I pulled it out beneath the desk.
Missed Call - Dad 9:00AM
I swallowed, my hair forming a curtain so the professor couldn't see what I was doing. I must have missed his call while I was driving over. My blood pounded through my ears. He knew my schedule. I flicked my finger across the screen as another missed call showed.
Missed Call - Hospital 10:10 AM
The hospital called.
The phone shook in my hand.
The hospital called.
My body numbed  as I stood, my books falling to the floor. Morgan's eyes met mine.
"El--?"
I shook my head as my vision blurred, my chest heaving.
The hospital.
Fuck.
I thought we were past this--past me having to keep my phone ringer on.
"El!" Morgan called at my back as I grabbed my bag off the floor. It was caught on the desk.
"God damn it!" I swore as I yanked at it.
The tears were streaming down my face as my chest hammered so hard it made it impossible to breathe.
Was I breathing?
"Ellie!" Morgan grabbed my shaking hands, lifting the desk so the bag pulled free. "What's wrong?"
Everything.
Every fucking thing.
I shook my head rapidly as I turned, rushing out the door and running to my car. I paused at it, my chest rising rapidly as my fingers shook over the screen of my cell phone.
Call. Hospital.
"Paul Abela," I whispered. "I don't know what room."
"One moment," the operator said.
I slipped into the car, putting my head against the steering wheel as my whole body trembled.
"Hey, princess," Dad's voice came over the line, and I thought I might faint.
"Daddy?" I gasped, choking on the name.
He could speak.
He's speaking.
"Can you skip class today? I need you to come to the hospital and speak with the doctor and I," he said and his voice was flat, devoid of emotion.
I knew he was holding something back. Something he wanted to tell me this morning.
"Yes," I choked.
"El--don't drive like an asshole. Nothing is going to change no matter how fast you drive," he said.
I grit my teeth. "Yes."

The Idea of Love by Patti Callahan Henry & Giveaway

Published June 23, 2015 by St. Martin’s Press

As we like to say in the south: "Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story."

Ella's life has been completely upended. She's young, beautiful, and deeply in love—until her husband dies in a tragic sailing accident while trying save her. Or so she'll have everyone believe. Screenwriter Hunter needs a hit, but crippling writers' block and a serious lack of motivation are getting him nowhere. He's on the look-out for a love story. It doesn't matter who it belongs to.

When Hunter and Ella meet in Watersend, South Carolina it feels like the perfect match, something close to fate. In Ella, Hunter finds the perfect love story, full of longing and sacrifice. It's the stuff of epic films. In Hunter, Ella finds possibility. It's an opportunity to live out a fantasy – the life she wishes she had because hers is too painful. And more real. Besides. what's a little white lie between strangers?

But one lie leads to another, and soon Hunter and Ella find themselves caught in a web of deceit. As they try to untangle their lies and reclaim their own lives, they feel something stronger is keeping them together. And so they wonder: can two people come together for all the wrong reasons and still make it right?

My Thoughts…

Have you ever told a lie, just a little white one, that just kept building and building until it was an entire story?   That is what is happened to Ella and Hunter (aka Blake).    The story is cute, charming but proof of what all can go wrong when truths are not told.

Ella thought she was in love with her husband, until he did her wrong and left her.    When she met Hunter, a writer looking to tell the tale of love, she spun her tale.   I believe she could not handle what was going on.   She had buried so much inside her, starting with the loss of her mother and continuing on with the break-up of her marriage.    Hunter is not truthful either.    He starts the lies of what his career is, who he is, and why he is visiting her town.   His life at home was falling apart, starting with an affair, his relationship with his personal assistant, and his relationship with his teenage daughter.

The two of them together, with their fake lives, are wonderful.   They both have hurt they are trying to get over.    The sparks between them are obvious.    I was worried how their friendship could progress when it started on such false pretenses.   They needed each other, but they really needed to come to terms with what was happening in their lives and be truthful to each other.  When they were apart from each other they could not stop thinking about each other, when they were together there was no one else they could think about;  sounds perfect, right?   I hope that it would end up that way.

Patti Callahan Henry is an amazing author.   Her books are clean, real, and full of life.    She shows what love and friendship is and how important it is.    I recommend checking out this book.

Iron 3 (Norfolk #3) by M.J. Fields

Published June 14, 2015 by MJ Fields

**This is actually a review for all three of the books in this series as I was lucky enough to get them all at the same time and read them back to back***

Lieutenant Jaxson Irons, was born and bred to be the soldier, a leader, and a man whose life's center is his country. He has lived the life laid out before him, but now everything has changed.

After the accident that nearly cost him his life, and secrets were revealed, Jax was left questioning everything and everyone, except his band of brothers and the woman who stood by him through it all.
Faced with truths and harsh realities, he must decide what to do next.

Francesca Cruz Irons has loved Jax since she was a little girl. When her brother Will, Jax's best friend dies, her love for Jax only intensifies. Her life was spiraling out of control when she ran into him again.

Once feisty and out of control, Frankie has become the wife to a man who once was stronger than her, but now is his equal and his everything.

Francesca's strength and support comes from her love of a man who is her everything, and she is his.

My Thoughts…

One of my favorite military, alpha man authors, Jessie Lane, recommended this series to me.    I have to say that I didn’t know for sure what to expect and was so happy that I could read this series in order, back-to-back.

M.J. Fields is an author that has it all together.   She writes in a style that pulled me in, had me invested in the characters, and wanting to keep reading.    Each book is part of an entire story.   They have to be read in order and I recommend one after another.     They do not end in a cliffhanger, you know how that part of the story ends for the most part, yet they each pick up exactly where the other left off.      There were twists and turns that kept me guessing and hoping that the characters would head the direction that I was sure they needed to go.

With each book, I loved watching Frankie get her life back.   She was lost in book 1, book 2 she knew where she wanted to go, and book 3 had her being a strong female that knew what she deserved and wanted in life.     The confidence she gains has her becoming a great wife, mother (great twist), and daughter.

I do wish there would be more to come in this series, but I am ready for Shadow’s story.

**I was given an ARC of Iron 3 by the author for an honest review.

Book 1 of the Norfolk Series

Jax
I was born and bred to be the man I am today. My father and his father were both graduates from The United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Both went on to become helicopter pilots. Both had seen plenty of action. Both had met and caused devastation. Both men, who I respect more above all, had served and protected the United States and her people honorably for decades.
My best friend, William Cruz, who attended the academy with me, had flown beside me, had lived the same life as I had and shared the same ambitions in life, was gone now. This was not part of the plan. Will and I were supposed to have each other’s backs, support each other and never let anything supersede our bond.

Francesca
I sat on Norfolk Beach needing to feel close to him on the anniversary of his death. It was a beautiful day in May and I was cutting class. I had done the same every year since he passed.
Jaxson Irons was only supposed to be in Pensacola for a year. But now three years later I still hadn't heard from him. I saw a man running down the beach and I knew immediately who it was.
Jaxson didn't respond the way I had dreamed he would. He told me we would catch up someday soon. I stood and watched until he was gone.
Thump, thump. I placed my hand on my chest as I felt my heart beat again for what felt like the first time in three years. Thump, thump. I felt the blood moving quickly through my body. It’s heat once again present. Thump, thump. I looked up at the sky and let out a breath. A breath that I had been holding forever. Thump, thump.
I felt tears fall down my face as I raised my hands in the air and laughed out loud. Just then the clouds parted for the first time in forever. I saw the sun smiling down on me.

Book 2 of the Norfolk Series

Jaxson Irons lived by the rules. His life's path was set before him and headed toward Washington, DC. When he fell in love with Francesca Cruz his family was against it. But Jaxson knows what he wants. Against his family's wishes he continues his love affair with Francesca, under the covers.

When life altering secrets have been revealed and Francesca is attacked Jaxson is adamant that he will figure it out, while keeping her safe. Not knowing who is behind the chaos Jaxson and Frankie decide to hide their love, for now. When the semester at Old Dominion ends Francesca agrees to go home to Princess Anne, Maryland, keeping her safe until Jaxson has figured out who is behind the madness and puts an end to it. All he wants is for his
angel to shine in the light she so deserves.

When he can't stay away any longer he goes to her exposing their love, and his intention to marry Francesca.

After an intimate wedding, surrounded only by those who Jaxson knows he can trust, they spend a highly sexual weekend at the cabin. Their weekend is cut short when Jaxson is called back to Norfolk for night training.

An accident causes hidden secrets to be exposed.

Can their love survive or will it die?

The Santangelos by Jackie Collins

Published June 16, 2015 by St. Martin’s Press

A vicious hit. A vengeful enemy. A drug addled Colombian club owner. A sex crazed Italian family. And the ever powerful Lucky Santangelo has to deal with them all, while Max-her teenage daughter is becoming The "It" girl in Europe's modeling world. And her Kennedyesque son, Bobby, is being set up for a murder he didn't commit. But Lucky can deal. Always strong and unpredictable with her husband, Lennie, by her side she lives up to the family motto-Never cross a Santangelo.

My Thoughts…

Typical Jackie Collins.    She brings Hollywood to the everyday person.   The drama, the drugs, the paparazzi, the sex, and of course Lucky.   I have read many of the Santangelo’s books.  It was great to catch up with all the characters from the past and be brought up to speed on what is happening in their lives.  Lucky is amazing, always has been and always will be.    Then bring in her larger than life children and their escapades and you get a story that you won’t be able to put down.

Bobby, Lucky’s son, has a girlfriend that he thinks he wants to marry.  Yet, his eyes are opened when he gets arrest for a crime he, of course, did not commit to how committed she is to him.     All he wants is to rush to his mother’s side and be there for her when she needs him the most, yet he is held up and he must deal with his life first.   At a huge family and friends function he runs into a long time friend of his mother’s and he realizes that maybe his ex isn’t all he thought she was.

Max is on her way to becoming a face and name that would be familiar in every household until she starts to realize all the drama that comes with climbing that ladder.     As Max is rushing home to be with her family, her plans get derailed and tragedy strikes her.   During this tragedy she finds what she has been missing and realizes that what she thought she wanted in life may not be what she really wants and needs.

Of course, I couldn’t write a review without talking about Lucky.    Strong, sexy, racy Lucky.    She is definitely a force of nature.    While she would fight for a friend with all she has, I have no doubt that when you go against her there is no forgiveness.      In this book she has a score to settle.   She goes about finding out who is behind her pain and knows that it has to be at her hands that they pay for it.    Settles it she does, Santangelo style.

This is a racy, sexy, soap opera like book.    While the amount of pages may seem daunting, it was an incredible quick read.    There is some vulgar parts, but if you have read other Santangelo books you know to expect it.     The Santangelos is part of a series, but can definitely be read alone.

About this author

My name is Sara, I’m twenty years old, and I was born and raised in Northern Virginia. I have always been interested in writing, even started a book in elementary school, but it wasn’t until high school that my friend, and writing partner, more or less forced me to join an amateur writing site. After some convincing from her, I plucked up the courage and posted one of my stories. While it wasn’t popular at first, I was shocked and overwhelmed by the support of readers on Wattpad, and they gave me the support and confidence to get where I am today. I continued to write religiously for the next three years I was on the website, starting countless stories and deleting a few others. It wasn't until I was nineteen that I was given the opportunity to work with a publisher, and I'm excited that I now get to share my work with countless other people as well as continue to write for the fans that supported me to continue working toward telling the world a remarkable story.

Eeny Meeny by M.J. Arlidge

Published June 2, 2015 by NAL

Two people are abducted, imprisoned, and left with a gun. As hunger and thirst set in, only one walks away alive.

It’s a game more twisted than any Detective Inspector Helen Grace has ever seen. If she hadn’t spoken with the shattered survivors herself, she almost wouldn’t believe them.

Helen is familiar with the dark sides of human nature, including her own, but this case—with its seemingly random victims—has her baffled. But as more people go missing, nothing will be more terrifying than when it all starts making sense....

My Thoughts...

WOW!   This book had me on the edge of my seat.  I was unable to put it down.    I was invested in the outcome and totally shocked at the entire story.     Crime novels are a favorite of mine.   I love a good murder mystery.      M.J. Arlidge is an amazing author.   This is the first one by her that I have read and cannot wait for more of the Helen Grace series.

Eeny Meeny kept me guessing who the killer was.  I really had no clue who it was until the end.    I was intrigued, guessing, and kept changing my mind as to the actual motive and murderer.   I love that there was no cliffhanger, even though there is more to this series.    Yet, there is definitely more to Helen and how she will handle what has happen.

The chapters were interesting.    I liked that they were short, but sometimes I was confused as to who was telling the story.    There was no signal for a point of view change.    There were other times I felt like a chapter ended and another started continuing the same information of the story.    It caused me to have to re-read some parts of the chapters and re think what I was reading.

I enjoyed the storyline, the characters, and cannot wait for more.    Check out this series.

COVER REVEAL of Bang Switch by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Bang Switch
Series: Code-11 KPD SWAT #3
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: July 2, 2015
Lachlan Downy was a lover, not a fighter.

Okay, he wouldn't lie, he was a fighter, too. But nobody had to know that. Especially not Memphis Tennessee Conner and her stuffy attitude when it came to cops and ‘men like him.’

Memphis knew cops. Her daddy was a cop. He was also the president of a motorcycle club. Needless to say, he’s about as alpha as they come, and she’s tired of overbearing men who think they know how to run her life better than she does.

So when Downy comes into her life running his smooth talking mouth, she realizes that she’ll have to stand strong against his pretty words and promises to give her what she needs.

Downy is determined, though.

He’s the hostage negotiator for KPD SWAT, and he’s never met a person, man or woman, he couldn't talk around into his way of thinking.

Although, Memphis is about to show him just how much he miscalculated.

Seems Downy may not be as smooth as he thought, and Memphis is just the girl to show him the error of his ways.

Skeleton Run by John L. DeBoer & GIVEAWAY

Published April 14, 2015 by Red Adept Publishing L.L.C.

Twenty years ago, four teenage boys left a baby behind in a crushed car after they caused the tragic accident that took the mother’s life. Ever since, they've guarded the secret that would've ruined their lives and destroyed their future careers. But when one of them succumbs to illness, a blackmailer makes contact, and the survivors realize that, somehow, someone else knows. Now, everything that matters to them is at stake.

Las Vegas billionaire Wendell Logan is pursuing the role of political kingmaker, and he’s selected his unsuspecting king: Alan Granger, governor of Pennsylvania. Granger confesses his closet skeleton to Logan, but the tycoon has invested too much time and money into Granger’s future presidential campaign to let him and his old friends endanger Logan’s power play.

It’s time to run.

My Thoughts…

I love a good thriller.    That is exactly what Skeleton Run is.    The idea of four young men causing an accident that killed a woman and then leaving a baby still alive on the side of the road just to save themselves is sad.    I understand that there is the scare of being charged with a crime, but WOW!   It is just wrong.    Then these four men had to live with their guilt and secret for the rest of their life.   At least until others learned of what had happen.

Watching these men grow up, become successful and finding relationships, while living with the guilt was interesting.    As their lives go on, the secret haunts some of them while it seems not to bother others.   Some of the characters I felt sorry for, others I wanted to shake and tell them to wake up and take responsibility for what was happening around them.    Al was definitely my least favorite.   He is exactly what I expect a politician with high expectation of his life to be like.    The fact that this drama started and continued with him seemed to make total sense to me.     I loved that Dr. Duncan became a pediatrician, I felt like that was making amends to leaving the baby on the side of the road.    The others didn’t have as much of a story line, but seemed to feel the guilt and wanted to make things right.

Skeleton Run is not a mystery.    John DeBoer let the reader in on the secret from the very beginning and kept us in the loop.    I knew who everyone was and what their secrets were.   It was a different style of writing and I really enjoyed it.    I like being in the know.   I recommend Skeleton Run to my fellow thriller readers.

Jax I was born and bred to be the man I am today. Francesca I sat on Norfolk Beach needing to feel close to him on the anniversary of his death.
