Pledge (Witches of Coventry House Book 1) by Christina Garner

Kindle Edition, 257 pages
Expected publication: January 12th 2017
Three new witches. Two dangerous secrets. One demon on the prowl.

Haunted by her past, Eden sees college as her chance at a fresh start. With a new school, new friends, and the recent discovery she's a witch, life should be getting easier, right?

Except she's tormented by nightmares and lighting fires in her sleep.

When things turn deadly, it looks like the monster stalking Eden's dreams might just be real after all. Will she face the truth in time, or will her sisters pay with their lives?

Pledge is the first book in The Witches of Coventry House, the exciting New Adult Urban Fantasy series from the bestselling author of The Gateway Trilogy.

My Thoughts…

Pledge is an interesting witch book.   I am an huge paranormal fan but have not read a lot about witches.     This was intriguing due to the premise that the girls who are pledging to join the Coventry House in college do not know they have any special talents.    They are put through various tests before they are allowed to pledge.

Eden is the main character.    She grew up with a horrible history that still haunts her and powers that she has no clue about.    I liked that even with her rough past she was friendly, helpful, and happy with life.    She came to college to get an education but also to make friends and start her life over without her past getting in the way.     Her reactions to the events happening in the college world are real.   When the boy she likes no longer seems interested it hurts.    When her friends are in trouble she steps up and helps them.     Eden is a very likable character.

The secondary characters are all interesting.  As the story continued I was able to learn more about their history and why they were pledging the Coventry House.  Knowing the history of the characters make them more real and a better understanding of where the story could be heading.
I feel like this is a good set up for the rest of the series.  Witches of Coventry House is a series that I am excited to read more of.     Christina Garner is a new author to me but one that I will be looking for more from.
