Exclusive Excerpt:

I look up at the clock for what feels like the millionth time. It’s after nine and Finn still isn’t here, the bar is beginning to fill with costume-clad people and I wonder if I’ve made a mistake pushing the fact that I wanted Finn to wear a costume, let alone join me at the party. But it isn’t such an extreme request surely; it’s a party for his brother and future sister-in-law. I tug at my costume as it rides up a little, cutting into my hips and making it slightly uncomfortable. “He doesn’t really like parties. You’ll get used to it,” a voice says from behind me. When I turn around Kelsey is standing there with a small smile on her face, but it’s just for show. It’s almost like she’s trying to reassure me that it isn’t my fault Finn has yet to show up. Part of me assumed he’d use work as an excuse to avoid tonight. But another part of me, the one that likes to think Finn and I have something, needs him to show up. To show me that he enjoys spending time with me despite his hatred of costumes and crowds. That he wants to be with me regardless. “Seriously…” Kelsey says but stops short and I see her eyes widen, and when I hear Beck yell out, “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me?” my eyes instantly gravitate toward the entrance to the bar. I see him, standing, scanning the crowd, searching for someone, searching for me. In that moment my heart stops and everything around me falls silent. I feel his eyes on me, his smile grows as he takes me in and all I can focus on is him walking over to where I’m standing. Navigating the crowded room and ignoring the comments and the women who attempt to stop him. “That boy loves you,” Kelsey says, her mouth close to my ear. “Look at his face!” “What?” I ask, appalled by her reaction to Finn’s arrival. “Don’t act like you don’t know,” she says, giving my side a little pinch before she bails, leaving me speechless. He loves me? I think as Finn finally stops in front of me, his smile even broader than before. He can’t possibly love me or could he?

About the Author:

Not only is Claire Raye a really sweet pen name, it’s actually a pen name for two sarcastic best friends who met through their mutual love of reading. After bonding over books (and wine and cheese), they decided to take the plunge and see if they could write a book together and ta dah... The Rockport Beach Series was born! In addition to their shared love of food and dropping an occasional (read, a lot of) f bombs, the writing duo that is Claire Raye like to write about strong, sassy females who aren’t afraid to say what’s on their mind and the overprotective men who fall in love with them. While Claire Raye’s resting bitch face might be strong, she always makes sure her alpha males are stronger!   Writing The Rockport Beach Series has been so much fun, even if Book two needed a shared vacation, a stolen bottle of champagne and far too much vodka and POG to get it back on track! Both halves of Claire Raye are married and both of her husbands have a cheeky side that gets plenty of airtime in her books. From their smart mouths to their witty one-liners, there’s plenty of material to use for all those alpha males she loves to write about.   While Claire Raye isn’t sure she’ll ever reveal who she really is - there’s just something about your co-workers knowing you write erotic love scenes that makes having a pen name that much easier – she’s definitely going to keep on writing. Plans are already underway for the next series, which is sure to feature plenty of sass, steam and humor, and of course, a happily ever after!

Exclusive Excerpt:

While the kids were held captive by one of the men donning a heavy tan fire suit, Ali felt someone come stand beside her. She glanced to her right and found Kellen. He seemed much bigger, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with her, than he had the other day. Ali wouldn’t consider herself short, and he still had at least six inches on her. “You doin’ okay?” he whispered, keeping his eyes trained forward. “Aces. Why do you ask?” “Oh, I don’t know. Could have something to do with the pale skin and choppy breathing. Or maybe it’s the way you’re swaying on your feet.” Crap. She hadn’t thought it was so noticeable. She caught the eye of one of her students who’d turned to talk to the boy next to him and motioned for him to be quiet and pay attention before she whispered back, barely moving her lips, “Occupational hazard. I’m fine.” “Of course you are, but why don’t you have a seat before you fall over?” Ali gritted her teeth. More than a little annoyed that he’d noticed. Annoyed that she felt like crap. Annoyed that he’d ordered her around. And annoyed that the pills were barely keeping her on her feet. “I said, I’m fine.” “Whatever you say, Ali Cat.” “Excuse me? Did you just call me an alley cat?” When he didn’t respond, she glanced up at him and found him completely relaxed, calmly watching the firemen who began taking questions from the kids. That only annoyed her further. “You know, in polite society, people don’t go around pointing out how crappy someone else looks.” “And, if you’d retract your claws a little, you’d realize I never said you looked crappy. I was simply asking if you were feeling okay.” Double crap. Ali closed her eyes. He was right, and she was being a bitch again. She had ninety more minutes before she could head home and quarantine herself—and her bitchiness—in a hot bath where she couldn’t infect anyone else. But there was something she needed to do first. “I’m sorry.” “Accepted,” Kellen easily returned. “No, not just for today,” she continued. “For last week in front of the diner. I was snippy that day, too, and you didn’t deserve it then any more than you deserve it now.” “Has everyone been graced with your sunny demeanor lately, or am I just that lucky?” She huffed out a surprised laugh. “You’ve been luckier than most.” “Any particular reason?” None that she was going to share. “Luck of the draw, I guess.” “Fair enough.” “And I appreciate your concern. Thank you for checking on me.” See, I can be nice.

REVIEW for Secrets Never Die by Melinda Leigh

Release Date:
March 19th, 2019
Romantic Suspense / Thriller
Morgan Dane
Book #5

When a retired sheriff’s deputy is shot to death in his home, his troubled teenage stepson, Evan, becomes the prime suspect. Even more incriminating, the boy disappeared from the scene of the crime.

Desperate to find her son, Evan’s mother begs PI Lance Kruger for help. She knows her son is innocent. Kruger and defense attorney Morgan Dane want to believe that too, but the evidence against the boy is damning. Just as the trail goes cold, another deputy vanishes. His shocking connection to Evan’s stepfather throws the investigation into chaos as Lance and Morgan fear the worst…that Evan is the killer’s new target.

With so many secrets to unravel, will Lance and Morgan find him before it’s too late?

My Thoughts…

Morgan Dane is back with a new case to solve and she is taking no prisoners.   I love Morgan Dane.   She attacks each new case with a resolve to solve it no matter who gets in her way.    While Morgan doesn’t work against the police, she doesn’t do things the same way they do.    Her gut leads her down paths that are dangerous, her heart doesn’t let her ever give up, and her brain takes the clues she finds and put them in an order that let her find the answers that she needs.

The case is the focus of the book but the relationship between Lance Kruger and Morgan Dane is a part of the story I look forward to.   The love between them is sweet, strong, and perfect.    Lance lets Morgan be Morgan, he supports her, helps her, and guides her when needed all while helping her be the best mom, daughter, and lawyer she can be.     He loves her three young children and makes their family complete.      Morgan has a good life but with Lance it makes it even better.   They work perfectly together but their love makes their personal lives just as perfect.

Melinda Leigh writes fast past, crime novels that show that things are not always what they seem.    With each new release, I am excited to see what will happen next.

COVER REVEAL for Make Him Howl by Zoe Ashwood

Title: Make Him Howl
Series: Shift Book #3
Author: Zoe Ashwood
Genre: Shapeshifter Romance
Release Date: April 4, 2019
Cover Design: Natasha Snow Designs

Funny how a wolf can survive after losing half his soul. Twice.

Gabriel is living in a nightmare. His sloppy mistake allowed rogue shifters to kidnap Parker, his best friend and partner. Unwilling to rest and plagued with memories of his twin brother who’d died in his arms, he pushes himself to the limits of endurance in his hunt to retrieve Parker.

Until the day she saves herself.

Parker thought that being secretly in love with her partner was the low point of her career. She was wrong. Forced to compete in shapeshifter cage fights, she commits an unspeakable act she can never undo. With her mind and body too bruised to resume her former job, she’s fighting to keep sane. Keeping away from overprotective Gabriel is even harder.

But their enemies are closing in, hurting shifters and humans alike. With so much to lose, their only solution will be to fight together, even if this brings up truths they’re not ready to face.

"She woke up warm and rested. There was a moment of confusion—whose bed was this, and why did it smell like Gabriel?—but sunlight was creeping from between the curtains, and the light in the hallway still burned.
Then she registered the source of that delicious warmth.

Gabriel West, her Shade partner and unrequited love, was wrapped around her, his entire body plastered to her as he breathed softly into the back of her neck.

Parker didn’t move a muscle. Controlling her breathing, she kept completely still, as if Gabriel was a time bomb that might explode at any moment. He was pressed to her so tightly, she had no doubt he would wake up if she tried getting away from him. This was a nightmare—exactly what she’d feared, though she’d had no idea that Gabriel was a cuddler. She really should have known. He gave excellent hugs."

Zoe Ashwood is a romance writer with a passion for sweet stories with a sexy twist. While she’s always been a reader, Zoe’s writing used to be limited to diary scribbles and bad (really bad) teenage poetry. Then she participated in NaNoWriMo 2015 and never looked back.
Some 400,000 words later, she’s still in love with the art of making up stories—and making her characters fall in love. Trust the Wolf is her debut novel.
When she’s not writing, Zoe works as a literary translator. She’s happily married to her best friend and has two small boys who are as stubborn as they’re cute.
She’s active on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, but her newsletter or Facebook Group are the best way of keeping in touch!
